Availability We periodically have puppies available and breed only to demand. If you would like to be on our waiting list or find out when our next litter is planned, please give us a call. Type and Coloring Size: Standard size for an Australian Kelpie is 17-21 inches at the withers. Our pups will grow to range somewhere between these standards with many tending to be on the larger end. Coats: These dogs will have a double coat with the hair being fairly short. The development of the undercoat will depend on how the dogs are kept. With very little shedding, they are easy to care for and maintain. How We Raise Our Puppies A lot can be said about how to properly raise a puppy of any breed. It seems like everyone you talk to has their own opinion on what to do and what not to do. And when you're talking about stock dog puppies the opinions get louder. A common theme you will find with all quality breeders is that early socialization is the key to developing a confident, trusting, secure dog, whether it will be a working dog or not. Our puppies are handled from the day they are born. This does not mean that a couple of them are picked up a couple of times a day. It means that every pup is held, talked to, exposed to children, taken on walks, introduced to other animals, given rides in vehicles, exposed to loud noises, and handled separately every day. Buyers of our puppies have told us again and again that they find our pups to be well socialized and afraid of nothing while they easily accept their new owners as their "master". All this time spent with the pups also helps when it comes time to help match an appropriate pup to a prospective new home. Under the right circumstances we are also willing to "back ground" a puppy, meaning we will keep the pup until it is an agreed upon age and begin it's informal training- this may be helpful to people who do not have appropriate facilities or time to manage a very young pup in their home. What to Expect When Taking Your Kelpie Home A lot of people ask what to expect when thinking of bringing an Australian Kelpie home. They are active, both physically and mentally, so they need a lot of room to run and opportunities to exercise. We feel it is also important to have a place for the pup to have some down time. A kennel or crate works so long as they are not used as a means of locking the dog up for long periods but rather as a place for a well-needed time out. A kennel may also lend itself to keeping your puppy safe while you are gone since they do like to investigate anything and everything in your yard. We like to offer a "service after the sale" option for any new Kelpie owners who may have questions or need advice after they get their new pup home. (We also just like to hear how each of our pups do as they grow and love to get feed-back from all our customers.) |
