River Breaks Ranch

Welcome to the home of River Breaks Katahdins and Kelpies located in Glendive, Montana, on the banks of the Yellowstone River.  Our interest in diversifying our ranch to include sheep and the appeal of a breed that is low maintanence led us to begin producing purebred Katahdins.  Today we sell seed stock, starter herds and feeder lambs.  Please review our site or call for more information about our sheep sales.  Additionally, you will find information about our Australian Kelpies on the About Us page and whether they may be right for your next ranch hand or companion.

Katahdin Facts

These sheep are:

• docile so are easily handled
• parasite resistant;significantly tolerant of internal and external parasites
• hardy, adaptable; In cold weather, they grow a very thick winter coat, which then sheds during warm seasons.  Their smooth hair coat and other adaptive characteristics allow them to tolerate heat and humidity well.
• low maintenance sheep; do not produce a fleece and therefore do not require shearing, docking, or crutching
• solely a meat sheep; produce superior lamb crops and lean, meaty carcasses
• prolific!; Ewes have exceptional mothering ability and lamb easily; lambs are born vigorous and alert and are usually twins or triplets. 

**This breed is ideal for pasture lambing and grass/foragebased management systems**
